2 Month Dr. Visit

After posting LDB's 2 month update I finally scheduled his 2 month check up. We had to find a pediatrician in our new town and work out our new insurance information so I was just sure that it would be a while before we could get him an appointment but it didn't turn out that way at all. I asked for a lot of recommendations and called several offices before I found a Dr. that fit what I was looking for. They had an opening this week so we took it!

K couldn't make it to the appointment but my parents are in town so they got to tag along. My mom actually came back to the exam room with us and she and I agree...Dr. F is GREAT! He was very attentive, answered our questions, and didn't make me feel like he needed to rush in and out. I felt really comfortable with him and he was super supportive of some of my slightly unconventional choices for LDB's care. Plus, his office is only 5 minutes from our house. We definitely hit the jackpot!

As usual, I was floored by how much he's grown. As a reminder, here's the info on his weight at each of the appointments we've had before:
Birth: 10lbs 13oz, 22" long
4 days: 9lbs 13oz
2 weeks 4 days: 11lbs 13oz
4 weeks 4 days: 13lbs 12 oz
And now, at 2 months 6 days he weighed in at 16lbs 13oz and 25" long.
That's just nuts to me.

Normally, babies fall into a particular percentile according to the national averages...but LDB is off the charts. Of course, he's not the only baby like that...it happens. But still, it just baffles me.

Dr. F said that his weight gain is consistent with his growth in length so he's not at all concerned that he's putting on too much weight. Basically, if he was gaining pounds and not inches there would be cause for concern but since that's not the case he is as healthy as can be. He was very impressed with LDB's head support and the fact that he's already rolled over intentionally. I'm so happy that he's so healthy. After Dr. F left the nurse came and gave him an oral vaccine and a shot. She had to wake him up to do it so I just knew he was going to be upset but other than a little groan when she stuck him he was fine. No fever or fussing later in the day either, so we were thankful for that!

I praise God for the health of my son. He's growing and developing so fast that I want to spend every moment I can drinking it all in!

2 Months

 "Hey everybody!"

 "Nice to see ya!"

"I'm 2 months old!"

That's right...this sweet boy is 2 months old! It's hard to believe that time has passed so quickly and things have changed so much. Here's the two month info!

LDB is wearing one-size cloth diapers on the smallest snap setting. We love Flips with a stay dry insert for night time and GroVia or homemade inserts for during the day. This month he wore 0-3 month clothes exclusively and outgrew just a few outfits. We probably should have started transitioning into 3-6 month clothes but I just couldn't bring myself to do it...I squeezed him into 0-3 for as long as I could!

This month he started sleeping through the night! Praise the Lord! We also (finally) got his nursery furniture up so we went ahead and moved him into the crib in his room. He had been sleeping in our room in a beautiful cradle made by K's father. When his long legs outgrew it after just a few weeks we moved him into the pack and play (still in our room) until we could get the furniture set up. Once we moved him into his room he started sleeping longer stretches which eventually transitioned into sleeping 6, then 7, then 8 hours straight at night. He's still working on consistency but about 6 nights out of the week he sleeps perfectly. This has been such a blessing for us! We were really convinced that letting him set his own schedule was the best for him right now and I'm thankful that it's worked out so well. When he wakes up in the morning we snuggle for a while, change his diaper, and then he eats. This lasts about an hour and is followed by a two hour nap. Then he wakes up, more snuggles followed by smiling and talking time with me. For the rest of the morning he'll eat and take breaks to smile at me then (generally) a two hour nap in the afternoon. The late afternoon evening is filled with eating, playtime and catnaps. At 9 we give him his bath, then lotion and pajamas and I feed him until he's fast asleep around 10.

He still nurses for most of the day but this month we've had longer stretches of awake and happy time. LDB loves to smile at Momma and Daddy and still is a hoot in the bathtub! His Grammy got him a carseat toy that spins, lights up, and plays music so car time is much better now than it was before. He is mesmerized by his toy and loves to swat at it. His personality is blossoming so K and I spend lots of time "talking" to him and smooching his kissy cheeks :-)

We loooooove being parents! This month has been wonderful and we are so thankful for our amazing blessing from the Lord!

1 Month

I'm a little behind on updates, in case you can't tell! So here is LDB's one month update.

At one month old our little LDB was 13 pounds, 12 ounces and about 23" long. Here's a side by side growth comparison at 1 week and 1 month...

I can't believe how fast he's grown! This month was a big one for us as we moved 8 hours away on the day that 1 week photo was taken. This little baby has been through a lot but he's been a champ! His first month was full of eating, eating, and more eating with a little bit of sleep thrown in for good measure. We saw his first, quick little smiles and learned that bath time is his favorite activity aside from, you guessed it...eating. I knew that nursing would be challenging but this first month was absolutely crazy. And completely worth it! He would take a bottle if necessary and believe me...it was frequently necessary in the middle of the night. He had a very, very hard time latching and in the middle of the night when he was groggy and tired it was even worse. Praise the Lord for my amazing husband who would willingly wake up to help me and bottlefeed LDB with milk I had pumped. I never would have stuck it out without his help. He also insisted that we get a glider to make night time feedings easier on me...yep, he's a keeper!!

This month LDB was in Fuzzibunz (a cloth diaper brand) XS and S sized diapers and disposables size 1, although he only wore those while we traveled for the move. He wore newborn and 0-3 month clothes and 0-3 month socks. The newborn ones could be pulled on but the heel hits him in the middle of his foot!

He wouldn't (and still won't) take a pacifier unless it was in the middle of the night and we were using it to help soothe him back to sleep when he woke up. Even then, though, he frequently just spit it back out. We're keeping an on demand feeding routine and baby-led scheduling in general but there's always a really distinct difference in when he wakes up hungry and when he wakes himself up with gas or restlessness. That's been really helpful with knowing when he needs more rest and when he needs food and has allowed us to get a bit more sleep at night!

Overall, this month was challenging but great. We both coped really well with the lack of sleep, worked as a team, and loved on our LDB like crazy! I wouldn't trade a single moment!
